The Role

As Director of Engineering for Recharge application development, you’ll build the technical roadmap for customer-facing applications, across all user populations, all branded payment products, and in all countries. You’ll grow leaders, organize for success, and build high-performing engineering teams. You’ll raise the bar on software delivery and quality, investing across customer features, key initiatives, and technical improvements to optimize for business impact and long-term sustainability. You’ll define architecture plans across front-end applications and related back-end services, ready for large-scale design and operations, high-standard user experiences, and reliable microservices.

Job requirements

What you’ll do...

  • Invest in building and growing a strong engineering team, from leaders to new hires, ensuring the right mix of talent, skills, and experience.

  • Build the technical vision for the team, spanning architecture, components, dependencies, engineering process, and technology selection.

  • Act as a leader within, proposing and planning key initiatives, owning critical goals, and aligning resources.

  • Deliver results through product feature launches and technical improvements that move the needle for customers and business results.

  • Maintain a high-standard technical operations culture, focused on building self-healing systems, solving problems quickly, extracting learnings, and continuously improving.

  • Span the full stack but be highly comfortable and motivated to work on front-end web and mobile applications with direct customer engagement.

  • Work with Product Owners, Engineering Managers, Principal engineers, UX designers, and business stakeholders to raise the bar on product/market fit and technical quality. This role will report to the CPTO (Chief Product and Technology Officer).

  • You will lead between 6-8 teams, 40-50 individuals; (engineers, engineering managers, QAs, principle engineers, POs etc)

What you’ll bring...

  • College degree in Computer Science, or closely related field.

  • 10+ years of relevant engineering experience

  • 5+ years of people management experience, managing engineers and/or leaders

  • Experience partnering with product and program management teams

  • Experience building high-scale applications based on web services and front-end frameworks

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

The process

5. Third Interview: You’ll meet with a key member of the management team

This role is based in Amsterdam, as we follow a hybrid way of working.
