The Role 💡
We’re looking for an ambitious and experienced Lead Software Engineer (Backend) to join our growing team in Amsterdam, Reporting to and working closely with our Engineering Manager, Tatiane Tassinari to validate the value of technical work, putting together architectural designs and leading the implementation of critical initiatives.
The engineering department consists of around 60 engineers, mostly based in Amsterdam, but we also have an office based in Lisbon! The Tech lead will work closely alongside their team, while also supporting engineers across multiple teams where you will lead cross team initiatives and guide decisions, especially for your related guild. You’ll be responsible for discovering, prioritising and planning technical challenges.
What will I do? 🤔
Delivering business impact across a team, delivering capabilities or technical systems
Leading within their team while driving impact beyond the team by driving cross team initiatives
Setting technical strategy for business impacting projects, defining technical roadmaps often involving cross team dependencies
Constructively taking part in the evaluation and application of ideas, plans and solutions
Coaching and mentoring members of the team by helping them with their craft, providing guidance and displaying role model behaviour
Actively reviewing and verifying performance of production systems and infrastructure by continuously monitoring appropriate observability metrics and business KPIs
Rapidly developing next-generation scalable, flexible, and high-performance systems
Solving issues with the systems, prioritising based on customer and business impact
Advocating best development practices within the team, as well as driving adoption across the engineering community
Acting as a strong discussion partner for problems, with both technical and non-technical audiences
Collaborating with adjacent teams and other partners to deliver on business objectives
Experience working on products that impact a large user base or in an entrepreneurial startup environment
What you have 💪🏻
Leading by example and gain your teammates' respect through your actions and not your title
You have driven successful technical, business and people related initiatives that improved productivity, performance and quality
Strong programming skills and experience with 2+ server-side programming languages
Experience building, launching and running critical, high-performance, distributed, fault tolerant systems.
Min 7+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, you’ve worked with web applications, distributed systems and product(s) that impact customers at scale
A solid understanding of Service Oriented Architecture, Microservices & OOP patterns — and you mastered explaining these concepts to others
Solid understanding of CI/CD and an integrated testing approach
Experience with developing for AWS
Owning your systems end-to-end and are comfortable performing incident management
An excellent communicator and able to influence and cooperate with people at all levels
You have a ‘can do’ attitude and you act proactively and not reactively
Highly skilled in mentoring, coaching and training team members

The Process⚙️

2. Phone interview: One of our recruiters will get in touch to help you both understand if Recharge is the right next move for you.
3. Technical Phone Screen: You will work through one or two basic programming exercises with one of our Senior Software Engineers for 30 minutes.
4. General Technical Interview: During this 1 hour, you’ll be provided with a problem to solve. We’ll be focussing on assessing your problem solving skills, and also take note of your communication and commercial awareness.
5. Domain Specific Technical Interview: During this 1 hour, you’ll be provided with a problem or exercise specific to your domain.
6. Final Interview: The hiring manager & Director of Engineering,, will have an open discussion (1 hour) about your motivations, ambitions and general experience about working in technology.
