The Roleđź’ˇ
We're looking for a Principal Engineer who will be partnering with cross-functional stakeholders across the company to identify major new business opportunities unlocked by technical capabilities
In this role you’ll be hands-on, either to support teams in getting a plan of the ground, or working with various key engineers to drive the implementation of best practices.
Your stakeholders are Lead Software Engineers, Lead Cloud Engineers, Senior Software Engineers, Engineering Managers, Engineering and Product Director, and occasionally other directors in the company.
What will I do?🤔
Leading design of new features towards a distributed, large scale, global platform that has a direct impact on the business, and on the experience of Recharge.com's customers
Serving as a tech lead on projects involving multiple teams across and beyond Product & Tech
Hands-on developing proof of concepts and evaluating new technologies.
Implementing technical strategic decisions in cross functional teams
Working closely with product managers and engineers to design, implement, and continually improve highly scalable, resilient applications and services
Providing technical guidance to engineers of various career levels
Maintaining a current understanding of industry and technology trends
Communicating and enforcing technical standards
Advising product and engineering leadership on achieving strategic business objectives.
Helping to align technical architecture directly between business needs, technical debt and resiliency
Supporting and advising on hiring for senior engineering roles
Strengthening the engineering community and coach senior engineers in their further development
Driving long term technical strategy in line with long term business ambition and current realities
10+ years of software development experience, with a minimum of 3 years in a principal, lead or architect role.
Experience mentoring and growing (senior) developers, preferably through convincing communication, not through reporting lines
Excellent communication skills: demonstrated ability to use data to influence people and drive decisions
Strong customer focus and passion for doing the right thing for the customer that also works for the business
Deep and wide experience developing and operating business critical systems
Proven hands-on experience in designing, building, improving and operating large scale, high-performance, highly-available and scalable distributed systems in a fast growing environment
Expert knowledge of computer science, with strong competencies in Service Oriented Architecture, migration and cloud
Ability to design and solve complex business problems by writing simple, effective code
Eager to work in multiple programming languages (e.g. php, typescript, python, Ruby on Rails) and frameworks and constantly striving to raise technical excellence
Ability to convince, provide work direction and leadership to colleagues who do not directly report to this role.

The Process⚙️

2. Phone interview: One of our recruiters will get in touch to help you both understand if Recharge is the right next move for you.
3. Technical Phone Screen: You will work through one or two basic programming exercises with one of our Senior Software Engineers for 30 minutes.
4. General Technical Interview: During this 1 hour, you’ll be provided with a problem to solve. We’ll be focussing on assessing your problem solving skills, and also take note of your communication and commercial awareness.
5. Domain Specific Technical Interview: During this 1 hour, you’ll be provided with a problem or exercise specific to your domain.
6. Final Interview: The hiring manager & Director of Engineering,, will have an open discussion (1 hour) about your motivations, ambitions and general experience about working in technology.
