The Role 💡

We’re looking for an ambitious and experienced Staff Cloud Engineer to join our growing team in Amsterdam or Lisbon, reporting to and working closely with our Engineering Manager, Romnea Kolap Pin, in the Platform Engineering Team. You will work on providing the infrastructure and tools that our engineering teams require to move very fast in our dynamic environment.


The engineering department consists of around 45+ engineers, mostly based in Amsterdam, but we also have an office based in Lisbon! Staff Engineers work with their Product Managers to discover, prioritise and resolve technical challenges and drive technical projects across Engineering teams.

Job requirements

What will I do? 🤔

  • Increase the reliability and stability of our platform through taking ownership in designing the infrastructure for Recharge’s services

  • Steer cross-team projects to improve the development experience for your colleagues and get the necessary buy-in from your internal stakeholders

  • Have a critical eye on the different trade-off between perfect delivery and timely solutions

  • Amplify your team members' efforts through structural coaching and mentoring

  • Set direction in those areas where there is business or/and technical uncertainty

  • Being hands-on and spending a significant amount of time in implementing the solutions that have been agreed on the team


What You Have 💪🏻

  • Experience in coaching and mentoring other engineers - you may even have managerial experience

  • 2+ years of recent experience in AWS

  • 7+ years of experience as cloud engineer or systems engineer

  • Experience with automation/configuration with CI/CD pipelines and the cloud-based tools that support them

  • Experience with performance monitoring, log aggregation and analytics

  • Experience with automation tools like Terraform and CloudFormation

  • Experience with CDN services like AWS Cloudfront or CloudFlare

  • Experience with building and maintaining database systems of high availability with database types like MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB

  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems such as Datadog, Sentry.io and Grafana

  • Love getting things done and see them in production

  • Advocate of the DevOps culture who wants to see other teams strive for success

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and guide your peers through situations that are not well defined but require actions nonetheless

The Process⚙️

3. General Technical Interview: During this 1 hour, you’ll be provided with a problem to solve. We’ll be focussing on assessing your problem solving skills, and also take note of your communication and commercial awareness.

4. Domain Specific Technical Interview: During this 1 hour, you’ll be provided with a problem or exercise specific to your domain.

5. Final Interview: The hiring manager & Director of Engineering,, will have an open discussion (1 hour) about your motivations, ambitions and general experience about working in technology.
